Card sorting

Card sorting

Card sorting is a simple technique in user experience design where a group of subject experts or "users", however inexperienced with design, are guided to generate a category tree or folksonomy. It is a useful approach for designing information architecture, workflows, menu structure, or web site navigation paths.

Example of our cards

Our card sorting is open for all participants. They can also create and name their own categories. Before that, they are are required to name all categories before finishing.

Our pre-survey questioanarie

We are asking 3 questions to 10 final users about alcohol in their life. After that user have to sort cards in categories which they think it is correct.

Our survey

After that we get result of tests with analise of their settings. Then we have to compare it with our predefined categories which are the best in our opinion.

Results

Summary of our survey

As we can see the overall time taken for our survey was almost 4 minutes so it is a good result.

Results of our participants categories

Results of our survey presents on a matrix

As we can see, the matrix give us great view and feedback of all participants. On this matrix we can see that, the clusters was created. Clusters we can see in place, where blue is darker so we see that the cluster, for example: Alcohols or Spirits includes: Bourbon, Gin Whiskey, Tequilla, Vodka, Absinthe, Wine and Beer.

Example of clusters in our survey

Dendogramsany branching diagram, such as a cladogram, showing the interconnections between tree. In our case interconnections between cards, where categories are connectors between cards.
It give us a feedback of percentage chance to interconnection between cards which is a names of categories of participants of our survey.

Dendogram of our survey

From this dendogram we can get a great feedback that is very helpful to make prototypes.
